Last week I had my daughter come to visit and of course we had a mother-daughter shopping day. When I asked Tori what she was going to wear that day, her quick response was, “oh just my mommy go to outfit” so I decided that would be a great idea.
Well, as you can see, I must be getting older . . .
I really like Tori’s version of a go-to mommy outfit. A pair of cute floral jeans, a soft tee layered with a light weight sweater, not to mention the fun fun pattern mixing. And then she smartly threw on a pair of sneakers.
I look so grown up for the occasion, (haha) in my white skinny jeans, a grey tee layered with a longer patterned cardigan. And my ever comfy silver pumps.
Tori was perfectly dressed for her mommy version . . .
and I was very comfortable sporty my mommy version as well.
For those of you who do not live here, this is City Creek Shopping Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, it’s our favorite place to shop for the day.
So, all my cute over 40 (and for me over 50) friends have you been caught by surprise at a generation gap in your go-to- attire?
P.S. don’t you worry, the very next day, I threw on the floral jeans and striped sweater and had a ball.
I disagree with you on the generation gap. You just both felt differently that day. Tori might have chosen your (type) of outfit as well on another day.
For me “Go-to” also means sneakers or flats and I am older than you. But if I could pull off silver pumps on a shopping day, I would most certainly do so. You both look ever so lovely. You are just a bit more dressy than Tori. “Me like a lot”.

I’ll tell you, those pumps feel like sneakers they are so comfy. Wish I could find some in other colors. Although I too, like shopping in sneakers.
You both look fabulous, Trina! It is the beauty of a mother&daughter styling as Alena and I often do – same theme but different versions. lthough, in your case I can see you both in each others styling too.
As you know I am rather a heels than a sneakers person, I adore your silver heels and I am still looking for a pair!

Annette, do you shop on line? I purchased mine recently from Banana Republic.
Both looks are fabulous (and interchangeable, imo – no age gap!). Your downtown shopping are looks wonderful too. xox
@Patti. Totally agree
Patti, this downtown shopping area is the best. Indoor/outdoor but it has a huge glass roof which retracts with weather pending. Perfect for the crazy Salt Lake City weather.
This cannot happen to me as I have no kids. LOL
No, this couldn’t happen to you. Sometimes kids can make you feel so old and then other times they seem to keep me really young ( at least at heart). I’ve also noticed they tend to be my best critics.
yep. They are living calendar, and hope
I have no kids so I don’t have this problem. Unless I chose to dress up my pug LOL.
If I could pull off wearing silver pumps when shopping I would. Sadly I would need martinis administered every 5 minutes, which would make for some rather awkward and hilarious shopping choices after the first hour I’m sure.
I love both outfits, and the fact that they both have spring florals in them.

Oh, I’m so thinking to dress up that adorable pug.
I would love be your hilarious shopping partner so bring on those pumps.
I think both your outfits are great! So great that you have time to shop with your daughter.

Yes, it was. You will relate to this one day. The week before when my son flew home we went to the same shopping center, his shopping time lasted 45 minutes including lunch, daughter’s lasted 5 hours.
I think both looks are great and ageless and a woman always looks her best wearing something she feels both attractive and comfortable in, whatever that is.
Hi Trina,
I love your outfit actually. That cardigan is so pretty and goes so well with your white pants. I do like your daughter’s floral pants too.
Hugs, Lynnie
Trina I love the outfit that you chose and the floral with the ruffles and the colors, it is so perfect. I also love your daughter’s outfit with the stripes and the florals. But the funny thing is I can see you wearing the both outfits so easily ! I know I could see myself in both outfits too. I think it’s more about what suits your mood for the day. I really love this post it was thought-provoking and so much fun.
