Tori has always loved books.
I still have the memories embedded in my mind of her, as a small child, perched on a chair surrounded by her many stuffed animals and reading them a bed time story.
Therefore, what better theme could we have chosen than a . . .
STORY BOOK SHOWER
IT BEGAN WITH THE LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK INVITATIONS
AND THEN I JUST PLAYED UP THE THEME TO ALL ENDS
TABLE TOPS AND SETTINGS
I chose to stay with the blue and gold colors of the “Little Golden Book” with the table settings by using blue and yellow plates, yellow table toppers, and centerpieces to match the theme. The bottles were accented with ‘Little Golden Book” print and blue straws. On each plate the guest were given a homemade journal (also done in blue, or yellow) with a name plate on it, which read “This book belongs to ____________, from Baby Locke.
THE BANNER I MADE USING LEFT OVER PAPER FROM THE JOURNALS AND COPIES OF LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK COVERS.
THEN WE WENT TO WORK CREATING THE BACKYARD SURROUNDING TO LOOK LIKE A BOOKSTORE OR STORY TELLING LAND.
USING BOOKSHELVES TO DISPLAY FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK AND STUFFED ANIMALS
(Big thank you to fellow book lover and friend Melia for providing many of the books and animals).
ANOTHER DISPLAY WITH TREATS THAT GO ALONG WITH FAVORITE BOOKS
CAN’T FORGET THE POPCORN BOOK AND TREAT
THE OTHER DISPLAY HAD NEW BOOK ENDS (from Grandma Trina), VINTAGE ABC BLOCKS, AND THE CHALKBOARD which read, “Please fill out a library card telling Baby Locke why this is your favorite book”. Each guest filled out a card throughout the evening and then Tori placed it in their book. What a treasure this will be for years and years to come.
CAN’T FORGET THE FOOD
I TRIED TO STICK TO THE THEME HERE AS WELL
“THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR” SANDWICH (made by Melia and Katie)
“JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH” PEACH BRUSCHETTA’S (made by Deanne)
“BLUE BERRIES FOR SAL” BLUE BERRY TARTS (made by Lori)
WE ALSO HAD PINK MACAROONS TO GO WITH “PINKALICIOUS”
A SALAD WITH LOTS OF FRESH VEGI’S TO GO ALONG WITH “I WILL NEVER, NOT EVER EAT A TOMATO” AND CHICKEN KABOBS TO GO ALONG WITH “CHICKEN LITTLE”
BEST PART OF THE EVENING,
THE GATHERING OF INCDREDIBLE FRIENDS
AND ENJOYING THE SHOWERING PART
(take notice of the incredibe darling quilt made by Deanne which Tori is rocking on)
We thought it was a perfect way to end the evening by having Tori read one of her favorite childhood books.
THANK YOU TO ALL MY WONDERFUL WONDERFUL FRIENDS, TORI AND I FEEL TRULY LOVED.
*TO MY BLOGGING FRIENDS, THANK’S FOR DROPPING BY, HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
*The chalkboard art was created by the ever so talented Katie Locke.
Linking up with Jann for Share Your Cup Thursday.
And with Bernideen to see who else is having some Tea Parties.
You’re the queen of the celebrations. I love how you prepare the tables, spaces, sets … Dishes served look very appetizing. And you you look so pretty in your dress. Only women are meeting? The men are not involved?
Come to think of it, this is kind of a silly tradition for the mother-to-be, because there is a father involved. But, yes, the shower’s are usually women only. Although, let me tell you, they did arrive to enjoy the food and they were huge helpers with the clean up. Love those men! I promise my next get-together will be with everyone. It’s my end of summer dinner party. Would you like to attend?
I like these men working in household cleaning. But perhaps they did in order to try the delicious food? 🙂 🙂 I love to attend one of your parties, should be a beautiful experience.
Lovely post ,the decoration was very cut and colorful ,You have a good time all ,everybody happy and smiling;)
It’s remind me the time, when my children were small ,our house ,and the fridge;)) was always open for my children and them friends;),I was preparing a nice food and some competition for them ,everybody has got a gifts at the end,it was a great fun;)).
We have a lot of books as well, than I was reading story for them ,I changed voices ,and we laughed all ,it was such a nice time,;))
Have a good,good day Dear;))
Sounds like you are and were an excellent mother.
I was there and loved it, in fact many of the decorations on the tables are vintage from Trina’s childhood when she would play at her grandmothers and have been played with by her children as well as their cousins and now my first great granddaughter and hope many more to come will be playing and reading at their great grandma Connie’s. So very glad I have kept them as they are great treasures.
Yes, they certainly are and bring back such great memories.
Wow, this does not happen in my world. Such details, so much work, so lovely. It does not even happen in my dreams. Fortunately not in my nightmares either. As hosting such a big party would definitely give me nightmares.
It looks perfect. So much love going around as well. I had to go to the last picture to see whether Tori was still pregnant or whether you had secretly become a grandmother. Such a pretty woman. (You too of course.)
You are one funny, funny lady. Thank you again for making me laugh today. I don’t think you’re alone in having to entertain being a nightmare, it is definitely not for everyone. You, my friend, would definitely be invited to at least attend my fun parties as a guest and just sit back and relax (if you ever pay a visit).
Your parties take my breath away, Trina! I wish you lived near me for the next time I host a party. Absolutely adorable. As a fellow bibliophile, I gotta love that theme!
I wish I lived near you for that reason also, we would have a blast.
Wow what a fabulous party.
I want to be at your next party : ) .
The decorations, food, every little detail carefully considered. Really well thought out.
bisous

This was one amazing shower with the most wonderful ideas!
What a lovely shower. I am planning a Community Baby Shower targeting at-risk moms for our local library. You have inspired me and I can’t wait to start sharing books that will inspire the food choices we make. What great ideas! Good job!
This is absolutely amazing. I love the whole theme! I stole that photo of the Hungry Caterpillar Sandwich for my charity inspiration board on pinterest!
Trina, everything is so cute. Love the story book theme! I was invited to a baby shower a while ago where we were asked to bring our favorite Golden Book. I was unable to attend so I didn’t get to see the décor. Just dropped a gift off. Love how creative all of the food is. The mother to be is so cute and I know that she will be reading lots of stories to the new little one. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
I just discovered your blog on 40+ Bloggers. It’s beautifully done. I just started mine, so I’m enjoying discovering new favorites. Yours has certainly become one. I love how you did the Shower. I adore children’s literature and am so inspired by how you decorated each table. I look forward to reading more of your posts!
Trina, I do believe your out Martha’ed Martha (Stewart). This was simply a visual feast, even in juvenile form. That banner was amazing, every detail so so lovingly rendered. Inspiring!
