A few years ago I joined the craze of choosing a Word of the Year. It’s kind of a new way of setting goals, you simply choose a new word that helps motivate or inspires you in some way. I love this concept. As I was contemplating and pondering about a new word for the year it got me thinking about what I truly wanted to achieve in my life. At my age (53) and current lifestyle situation (retired) one can find themselves feeling a little less needed, less motivated, stagnant in their learning and creativity. I know I don’t want these things creeping into my daily thoughts or lifestyle, therefore I know I need to keep motivated and continue to seek knowledge and new ideas, in other words I want to “aspire” (to direct one’s hopes or ambitions toward achieving something).
I love this definition of aspire, it pretty much states every little motivational word I need in my life.
A beginning/plan
As with every new beginning it’s always a good idea to start somewhere or with something in mind.
Here’s a few of my aspirations.
*Read or in my case keep on reading (I’ll let you know which new books I purchased at my annual New Year’s day celebration at Kings English bookstore in a future post)
*Enroll in a class, an actual sit down and meet others class. I recently signed up for class at the U of U through Osher learning (get this, you have to be over 50 to join, now I feel my age is worth something).
*Join a snow shoeing club.
*Give at least 10 percent of my time to serving others.
I do realize I will need to continue to renew and and direct my hopes toward achieving things but it’s a good start.
And as stated “When you have in mind a purpose or goal (aspire to great deeds) you have a better chance of doing good deeds.”
What about you, my fellow readers and friends, do you set goals or choose that one little word? I would love to hear about them.
I also began my year with a new pair of glasses, I figured it’s a great way to help see my way a bit more clearly. These oversized fabulous glasses came (gifted) from Firmoo, although I have purchased a few on my own expense and have been ever so happy with every single pair I own. I enjoy switching my glasses to match my outfit style for the day so I do own several pair, therefore I don’t really want to pour out a huge amount of money each time I decide I need (want) an new pair. This company is the perfect solution for this and they constantly update their collection here. If your hesistant about ordering glasses online, don’t be, it’s the best way to go and you can try them on using your computer screen. I love seeing you wear the necklace! : ) That put a huge smile on my face.
I have heard of other people taking a word for the year. I am terrible at setting goals and following through. I have a fear of failure and don’t want to set myself up for disappointment. Stupid I know. The one thing I decided to do this year differently was to keep myself accountable for my actions by writing them down in an agenda. We’ll see how it goes.
You have chosen a brilliant word and some great achievable goals.
I love the glasses!

Wearing that necklace always puts a smile on my face as well. I seriously had to hide it from Tori so it would just by chance fall into her suitcase.
I love the idea of writing down your actions, I just might give that a try myself.

I think you have already played with the idea to order Tory one too haha. As soon as I saw your first picture Tina, I thought: “Ah, necklace mady by Suzanne”. And I was right. It looks lovely with your outfit.

Trina, I know what you mean about feeling less needed and stagnant. I’m about your age and also retired, but many friends haven’t retired yet, so i find myself knocking around with my self for company most days. It’s too easy to find projects at home, then realize at the end of the day I didn’t see anyone except my husband! This year I aspire to take a Lightroom class at a local community college. Let us know how your aspirations unfold!
Trina says
Jane, so nice to hear from a fellow friend who totally understands this new stage of life. Your lightroom class sounds like a lot of fun, good for you! I’m now going to head over and visit your blog as well.

Dear Trina, ASPIRE is what I have been trying to do all my life. It is such a great word, and I am so glad that you have called it to my attention. I have so many goals this year that I am so excited about that I can hardly sit down and relax some days, it’s like life has started all over for me. Hey! You look amazing as always and I will check out the the web site for glasses, I am in dire need of some new ones.
Have a wonderful New Year my friend! Luv ya, Jo

I love your word (and your adorable sweater-I couldn’t find it on their website). I have a friend who has a snowshoe group. It’s pretty much anyone and everyone is invited. If you’re interested, I can forward you the email I received from her today. The first day is next Thursday. It’s fun to meet random women who end up friends. Happy New Year to you!!
Trina says
Lenice, I would love to hear more about your friend’s snowshoeing group so yes, forward the email to me. Are you part of it? And, you’re right, I couldn’t find the sweater any longer on their website, dang. Although they had plenty at their store at City creek.
Lenice says
I just saw this. Will you email me at [email protected] and then I’ll have your email to forward on to her. Yes I am a part of it. I’m not able to go every week but I try. It’s a lot of fun!!

Not only did you put on your new necklace and glasses. You also cut your hair. Hmmm. this also suits you.
As for resolutions… I don’t have them. If something needs to be changed I change it immediately. I am back on clearing out my wardrobe though. Soon lots of friends are going to be very pleased haha.

I love that attitude and work ethic you have of changing things right when they need to be done. I just finished cleaning out my armoire of sweaters and cardigans. I feel as if I just went on a shopping spree, haha. And, I also have some pretty pleased friends. Also thanks for the nice compliments on the hair. I’ve been to tell you the same thing, your hair looks wonderful lately.

Very good idea! Love that you have set a goal and think it is a better way to go about the new year , really reflecting. Love the photos with the cozy knit, your pretty necklace and the snow in the background. Kids here , when I used to teach kindergarten were fascinated when flakes fell to the ground, !

This is one of my favorites looks on you! I adore the fuzzy, over sized sweater, the casual denim, and the very cool specs. LOVE that hat!
