lay*er*ing : the wearing of lightweight or unconstructed garments one upon the other, as to create a fashionable ensemble or to provide warmth without undue bulkiness.
When you live in an area as I do (Salt Lake City, Utah), layering is pretty much an essential part of dressing, especially in the spring time where the mornings can still be a bit chilly and by mid afternoon its nice and warm and then when the sun sets, the temperatures will again drop a several degrees. I also find layering to be essential during the summer months whenever you head into a shopping center or restaurant and the air conditioning feels like a freezer.
I also find layering can add some uniqueness and personality to any given outfit.
But layer it with a long lacey vest and necklace and it instantly gives off a feminine yet still boho vibe.
And then when it becomes chilly, just layer it with a oversize merino pull-on sweater and lace scarf. . .
or when your just feeling a more casual (hippie mood) change into some birkenstocks . . .
and throw on a soft button down blouse (you could even tie it at the waist for another look).
I find layering is quite a lot of fun and speaking of layering, the How I Wear My series which Adrienne and Jill have is live today so go check out how others are layering for the season.
