“EVERYBODY GET GOLDEN
AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP TO THE SKY
EVERYBODY GET GOLDEN
SO WE CAN GO UNTIL WE SHINE”
-Lyrics from Parade of Lights
I’ve been singing this song for the last week (yes, to myself and at the top of my lungs) . . .
It makes me happy, it makes full of energy, it makes me feel like I can conquer the world . . .
It makes me want to shout for joy . . .
it makes me want to celebrate . . .
and
for the next two weeks I, along with the rest of the entire world get to do just that . . .
celebrate
by simply engaging or watching or tuning in to the 2014 Winter Olymics.
I don’t quite remember when or why I gained such a pure joy and love for the Olympics.
It could have been from watching hours on end as a child at the side of my parents and siblings.
It could have been from observing the emotions of the athletes and feeling just a touch of what they were experiencing.
It could have been the feeling of excitement in their eyes to the trials and tribulations that got them there.
There is just something about the Olympics that is hard to put into words.
Twelve years ago my home town had the immense privilege and opportunity to host the Winter Games. I still remember taking my two small children down town to the city park the day they were announcing which city would win the 2002 bid and the excitement that filled the air. We, as a city and State, worked together to proudly represent ourselves to the world.
Being among the celebrations when they light the torch . . .
To being near the athletes when they are presented their medals . .
Helped me realize that the Olympics are a time to celebrate . . .
WORLD PEACE
LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER
ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF WINNING
AND LOSING
DIFFERNCES AMONG OTHERS
BUT MUST MOST OF ALL THE JOY OF NEW AND EVERLASTING FRIENDSHIPS . . .
So, I’ve got my GOLD going on . . .
And, I am ready for the celebrations to begin.
I thought I would share with you one simple way I celebrate. This is my sofa table in my family room, the one room everyone enters. I simply keep it stocked with “gold” treats . . .
water bottles
gold clusters
mints
rolos and bubble gum
I add cheese and crackers when I know guest are coming over.
I also keep frozen pizza stocked in the freezer to throw in at any given time (I’m not going to be found in the kitchen when I can be part of the celebrations).
So, come on over friends and family . . .
WE ARE READY TO GET GOLDEN!
As always my friends, thanks for dropping by . . .
Now “Go Get Golden”

How on earth do you keep your figure with so many sweets around you? I never stock any sweets or cookies or crisps because I would eat it all before any guest arrives. Not very hospitable I know.
But not as bad as it seems. As in The Netherlands it is hard to just call on somebody. Everybody is so fully booked, you always need to make an appointment. No spontaneity. Sad but true. The upside of it is I usually know when somebody is coming and can buy things on the day itself. Besides, should a friend arrive unexpectedly, no sweat the supermarkets are open till late and 7 days a week (we are following America, being our example, just 20 years later haha).
Your golden stuff looks delicious and inviting. That is the most positive comment I can give as I hate sport and I also hate watching it. Yes darling … even the Olympic games.
I am sorry… it was inevitable that one day I would disappoint you. The day has come..

Oh, what would we do without those 24/7 supermarkets? As for the treats???? (just buy ones you don’t much care for, haha jk). I’m not one that cares for treats too much myself so I can easily stay away from them, its the breads and crackers that get me.
I do remember you saying you hate sports, which is ok, see I did say its good to celebrate the difference in others and you have yet to disappoint me, my friend. I simply grew up with a sports-acholic-dad, but it rubbed off on all of his children, including myself.

What a beautiful post Trina! I totally resonate with your thoughts. Vancouver hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, and it was a ride to remember! We got up before dawn to see the Olympic torch being carried through our community.

There is nothing that captures that spirit, is there? I am so grateful my children were able to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience as well.

What a grand table!
I’m not one for watching the games but seeing your spread might convince me otherwise.
Have a great weekend!

Trina,
I love this golden post, it is so clever. I also look forward to the Olympics, the figure skating is my favorites. This post was inspirational and put me in a very good mood. I will read it again in the morning with my coffee, since I am not a morning person, that might help!!
